Job Description

SummaryThe Territory Sales Manager is a commissioned sales representative who is primarily responsible for opening new and maintaining existing accounts by servicing customers in a variety of ways.  In addition to taking customer orders and responding to and assisting customers and prospects as needed, the position requires the ongoing selling of new products and ideas to existing customers. The position requires continuous participation and dedication to the acquiring and development of US Foodservice endorsed Selling Skills and Techniques. TSMs are expected to interact with all departments as needed in order to provide exceptional customer sales/service.  Expected to achieve sales and gross profit budget requirements. Expected to take full direction of activities from District Sales Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • At all time will support and adhere to US Foodservice Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Visit The Customers – Must be able to visit customers at the customer’s location.  Prospecting and opening new accounts, maintaining good relationships with existing accounts.  Educating customers on products and market driven price changes.
  • Take orders – Must be aware of the merchandise line available to the customer as well as being aware of the customer’s needs in order to make sales properly.  This will include the need for good communications skills when dealing with customers.  TSMs are expected to use all given materials as directed (presentation folders, P.O.S., etc.) with all customers.  Expected to acquire expected skill level in utilization of computer software associated with taking the customer’s order. 
  • Equipment use – Since the orders and other information are transferred with the use of computers, the Territory Sales Manager must be able to input and retrieve information using computers.  They must also be able to communicate with the customer by telephone as needed
  • The Territory Sales Manager must be available via phone to their customers at the customer’s convenience.  This dictates they will be required as needed to work evenings and weekends.
  • Maintain an open line of communications with DSM and Division departments as required.  Submit reports as required and meet assignment and task deadlines as expected.
  • Immediately communicate any “business at risk” or “lost business” situation to DSM.
  • Manages the business relationship between the foodservice operator and US Foodservice Houston Division.
  • Grows sales with new business from current and qualified prospective customers and achieves individual sales goals.
  • Represents product offering to customers that assist in achieving the business goals of the foodservice operator.
  • Creates a need for and sells in all product categories that US foodservice offers.
  • Determines with DSM the “appropriate” pricing structure for current and prospective customers.
  • Manages, communicates, and collects within established terms, A/R within customer portfolio.
  •  Immediately informs Credit Manager of any change in customer’s ability or desire to pay within terms.
  • Records and transmits customer orders through company computer to the client’s satisfaction.
  • Expected to properly and accurately fill out all forms necessary to conduct business.
  • Visits all clients on a consistent basis that has been agreed upon by both client and TM (minimum expectation is weekly).
  • Manages deliveries to the transportation dept. routing schedule;
  • Attends all Company –sponsored sales meetings
  • Perform at all times reflecting the Division Vision and set operating goals.
  • Communicates to DSM any noticeable change in customers’ purchases
Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in outside sales.
  • Knowledgeable with computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Lotus.
  • Ability to learn new computer programs.
  • Excellent communication skills. Project management with proven organizational/time management skills. 
  • Capable of working independently, team player and able to multi-task. 

Preferred:

  • Foodservice/beverage industry experience.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in foodservice sales.
